Farrow Dress, Grainline, #jecoudsmagardeerobecapsule2017 Mars

Coucou mes chères amies couseuses,

Hello, dear sewing friends,

it is time to show our capsule items sewn in march. Obviously, I have sewn my dress.
I have chosen the Farrow Dress pattern by Grainline Studio. I loved the pattern as soon as I saw it but was quite unsure whether it would suit me.
The pattern has fitted shoulders and an extended A-line with a high-low hem. There are centre seams as well as inverted V-lines at lower waist line. The most striking detail are two front pockets cleverly integrated in the diagonal waistline.
After reading Jenny's post about dying your fabrics I had a try with a cream coloured viscose jaquard waiting in my stash.
At Simplicol site, you can get an idea how mixing two colours would work out. I ordered "lavender" and "elegant grey" and mixed them (weighed the liquid to be exact when mixing). The result was a way more brillant colour than intended. I had envisioned a more muted, more greyish lavender.
I didn't have enough fabric to respect directions and had to cut the back skirt pieces upside down. It isn't really visible, but the flower heads don't go down in one row, which is visible. I can live with that. I had considered cutting the pockets separately of other fabric, but shortened them instead.
I sewed a straight size 6 without any other changes. I shortened the hem by 6cm. I didn't like the finishing of the back slit so widened the facing including the slit. A next time maybe I would design a completely new facing going up to the armholes to fix them.
When moving too much, the back hook would open. I will replace that hook and eye by a little button and a thread loop.

pattern: Farrow Dress, Grainline Studio
Size: 6
fabric: viskose jaquard, Tandem Outlet, Bühl
dye: Simplicol intensiv, lavender and elegant grey
alterations: back facing extended, shortened by 6cm.

I am still not sure about the silhouette. What do you think?

At Clo's, there will be links to all the other sewists taking part at #jecoudsmagarderobecapsule2017 the last day of march.

German sewist would meet each wednesday at MeMadeMittwoch.

Go have a look! Have fun!

Fruit and veg stowe bags

I am frustrated by the many plastic sacs that are left when buying fruit and vegetables. Even if we have got a reuse sac for our errands, the different sorts of fruits and vegetables have to be in little sacs not to get mush when arriving at home.
I already had collected a plastic sac with the intention to open it and use it as a pattern. Eventually, I sewed the small Grainline Patterns stowe bag pattern, printed at 80 percent.

Together with Mel, we had bought synthetic lining for this issue. It is very lightweight and slippery.
Because I didn't want to sew pockets, I started with step 5 following the well illustrated instructions. I made 1" self bias binding (out of a square of 16,5 x16,5" or 42 x 42cm). For future sacs, I will use wider binding.
Other than the instructions, I sewed the seams as french seams: right sides out 1/8" SA, then left side  turned out 1/4" SA using some wonderclips. I used my quilting (1/4") presser foot.
I also folded the bias binding in half lengthwise like binding for quilts, then sewed the long raw edges on on the left side, graded the SA, turned the binding out and sewed it on at the right side. I didn't use any pins but only a wonderclip 4cm at the beginning to guide the slippery fabrics under the presser foot.
At step 13 I was a little puzzled. You have to fold the base seam (1 3/4") and to fix this pleat.
It is a cute little sac. You can knot the handles after paying the fruits or vegetables and open the sac at home easily. It is hovever quite some work (binding!) to finish it. We will see how many sacs I will be able to sew and how practical they will be!

Today, Mel has posted her many sacs she has already sewn. She has made me a very cute lined one for collecting the future sacs, have a look at her blog!

How would you buy your vegetables? I am curious to know!

Me-Made-May'16 days 19-31

Dear sewing fellows,

nearly one other month has gone since Me-Made-May'16 and I missed to show the last twelve days.

May 19 Blouse Bruyère, Deer+Doe
I still love the lovely thin lawn of Annakabazaar and enjoy wearing this shirt which is veiling my hips quite well.

May 2o Colette Patterns' Peony Dress
I made this dress some years ago. The neckline is quite nice and the wool crepe makes it easy to wear when a black garment is needed.

May 21 Archer Shirt, Version B, Grainline and Ginger Jeans, Closet Case Files.
The lovely Liberty Tana lawn and the cute derrière ruffle add up to a comfortable shirt. The high cut jeans are made out of a thin dens linnen with elastan. The waist band sadly is too wide, but it is a very versatile piece of my wardrobe.

May 22 Alma blouse, Sewaholic
This little blouse was made out of a liberty remnant. The little cap sleeves are providing good protection against burning sun.

May 23 Camì Dress, Pauline Alice
The fit of this dress is rather bad, but I so love the fabric with it's little teapots, cups, saucers, spoons and sugar cubes.

May 24 I love to wear my BleuetRobe , Deer+Doe
You can see that I love Liberty Tana Lawn! The shirt dress pattern is cute and very well fitted. There is no waist line; so sitting at the couch in the evening is not uncomfortable.

May 25 At our trip to Etna, I protected myself against the wind with my old unlined coat McCall M5525. You cannot see my white linnen shirt B4985 I once had sewn inspirated by Carolyn's lovely versions. Repeat of the linnen Ginger jeans.

May 26 Malvarosa Dress, Pauline Alice.
This was my last year's favorite dress.

May 27 Moana Dress, Papercut Patterns.
My new summer dress. The italian linnen is quite stiff and combined with the pattern not so flattering, but I love it.

May 28 Flora Dress, ByHandLondon.
This liberty dress is calling summer to me.

May 29 This viskose knit dress is a staple of my wardrobe (Garçonne).

May 30 Anna Dress, ByHandLondon (old picture)
Why the Anna dress is not the first dress I would chose to wear I don't know. Maybe the mille fleurs print with this pattern is too granny-like?

May 31 last day of Me-Made-May'16 and of our holidays. Travelling was so comfortable in my new Guise Pants, Papercut Patterns. I paired it with another little blouse, Datura by Deer+Doe.

I loved taking part at this great international group of sewers at Instagram. However, there was a huge quantity of participants and I missed the cozy group of flickr where I had participated last year and where I had found a lovely handful of international sewing friends. I hope finding them all next year maybe at Instagram?

I had no difficulty wearing selfmade clothes every day. My intention had been to improve my ability of taking pictures. Sadly I have to admit to have failed this. I think I will try next year again!

Thank you, Zoe, for organizing this lovely event and thank all of you who have been looking at my pictures, given kind comments or who are reading my posts!

This evening, I will have a look at weekly MeMadeMittwoch!

Alder Dress at MeMadeMittwoch

Hello, dear sewing fellows,

A lot of German speaking sewists are meeting at MeMadeMittwoch (Wednesday),  showing their selfmade garments.

I am wearing my Cosmic Blue Alder Dress. It is a good choice for the lower temperatures in the morning and for the anounced hotter afternoon.

MMM5 Day19
Burda wrap blouse 8497 and Colette Beignet skirt

This was my second participation. Last year, I took part at Pinterest but realized at the end that the communication took part mainly at flickr. So I participated at flickr this year and it was such a fun to see everybody's outfits and "hang out together" by commenting.

MMMay15 Day 30
Flora Dress, BHL, Liberty Tana Lawn Forgetmenots and Myrna cardigan, Andi Satterlund.
Day 31 you will see at my next post.

The number of the flickr group was much lower than last year and I realised only yesterday, that the most of the MMMay pictures had been posted on instagram! Nevertheless I don't mind, because the group at flickr was such a nice, kind and supporting group.

I am very grateful having had the opportunity to participate at such a wonderful worldwide group of  sewists! Thank you, Zoe, for giving us the platform for this assembly!

Maybe see you at Me-Made-May'16?

Alder Dress Cosmic Blue, Me-Made-May Day 25

Hello, sewing fellows,

My first Alder Dress by Grainline Studio I sewed out of the fine cotton lawn Cosmic Blue by Atelier Brunette I had bought together with the lawn for the Bruyère Blouse.

At Munich, I had found the perfect buttons at the cute little shop Kurzwarenrausch.

I followed Jen's instructions at the sew along using the Archer sleeve pattern.

However, I didn't understand how she managed sewing the angles with french seams. Following her instructions, the thing finished with a little hole. Eventually, I cut the seams in another way at my samples, which did the thing, but finally finished the gathered seam with the serger.

The lawn is very nice to wear, but I have to be careful while pressing it. It gets glossy very quickly.

Alder Dress, Grainline Studio, Me-Made-May'15 Day 3

Hello, me-makers,

today we have got another wet and grey day. I took my flannel Alder Dress, Grainline Studio, again out of its summer accommodation to keep me cosy today.

I loved the Alder Dress pattern the instant I saw it.

I followed Jen's instructions using the Archer sleeve pattern.

This cotton flannel was fraying out very badly, so I finished the seams with flat felled seams. Therefore I was using a special foot of my Bernina which makes this very easy.

I am very pleased with the result. I do not press the flannel!
