Ellis Dress, Merchant and Mills und Lingerie-Set zur Annäherung Süd

Hello, dear sewing friends,

we southern German sewists had such a good time at our annual sewing bee last week at Würzburg. What a charming university city and we were lucky enjoying the golden autumn sun.

At sewing bees, I would sew easy projects because all the chatting would distract me easily.

I chose the Ellis and Hattie pattern by Merchant and Mills which I wanted to make since I had seen it years ago. At a fabric outlet near our home I found this cotton print showing orange leopards on a navy background.

Version Ellie features the higher waistline and french bust darts, both versions featuring decorative neck darts being fitted at bust and shoulders with a loose fit at the waist and a gathered skirt.

The length is midi which is too long for me. I will give the dress to my daughter. I guess she will love the modern length.

Alterations: armscyce taken in 1cm at shoulder point and 0,5cm at front.

Through #BRAugust2018, I got a lot of inspiration and so I made a little lingerie set, too.

Fail:
I had had high expectations in the Talvikki sweater, but it didn't suit me at all and I already donated it.
The Adrift dress is lovely and floaty. But I feel that I have made an expensive night gown. However, it was only finished at the end of summer and I will give it another try next summer.

Surprise:
I would never had sewn such a short skirt if not for pattern testing. This skirt fits well, it is very well made with a lovely lining, it is a young and modern style and I don't feel ridiculous wearing it. I love it and I am wearing it a lot.

Most worn:
Why hadn't I thought about making my active wear before? The leotard dresses are in steady rotation and I have never had so many people complimenting and asking where I had gotten them.
The Driftless cardigan is another garment worn  a lot. And so is the underwear.

Most loved:
Maybe the gathered blouse and the Azaire blouse? The first is a perfect blouse pattern, the second is such a lovely pattern. The silk Liberty Alder dress was made too late in beginning fall, I hope wearing it in spring. Same with the Reef pajamas.

I can see that there are several sewn garments unblogged. My main problem is the part of taking pictures. I don't like being photographed at all and I don't have the skill of taking good pictures or of editing. A good post needs very good pictures so anyone would like reading it. It's a dilemma!

I have taken part in Clo's  @couture_and_clo #jecoudsmagarderobecapsule2017 with sewing one garment per month including twelve categories (I signed them with a little star). I liked participating a lot and will hopefully write another blog post about this sew along.

Every year, the German MeMadeMittwoch-blog is offering a Christmas-dress-sew-along.

I took part with my Lanvin-inspired dress at Monikas and Yvonne's "from runway to my wardrobe" (Vom Laufsteg in den Kleiderschrank).

DNS Dessous-Näh-Sucht (Lingerie-Sewing-Addiction) BH-Sewalong 2015-4:fertige Werke.

Hello, LSA (lingerie sewing addiction)- infected sewists, 

heute versammeln sich die Mitglieder der Selbsthilfegruppe bei eben Julia zum letzten BH-Sew-Along 2015-Treffen, um ihre Werke zu zeigen.

Today all the members of the support group meet Julia from eben Julia for the last meeting of the bra-sew-along 2015 to show their makes.

Bei mir gibt es erst mal keine Überraschungen. Wie geplant, habe ich einen neuen Shelley Bra genäht.

No surprises at first, I sewed another Shelley Bra.

Ich nähe keine verstellbaren Träger mehr. Der BH wird ja nach meinen Maßen angepasst. Falls das Trägergummi ausleihern und der Rest-BH noch schön sein sollte, kann ich den Träger ja kürzen. Ich finde, dass sich die Ringe und doppelten Gummis immer etwas abzeichnen.

II don't sew those rings ore sliders because I think that they become always apparent. The straps are customed after my size, so I cut them. If ever the elastic would wear out (probably the whole bra would be worn out) I would cut it and attach it again.

Leider habe ich beim Rückenband nicht gut aufgepasst. Es war trotz kurzen Ausprobierens zu breit für den Verschluss. Deshalb habe ich kleine Blümchen meiner Borte direkt neben den Verschluss aufgenäht.

It's a shame I was not careful  with adjusting the the backband closure, there are little puckers. Therefore I attached a little flower at each side. 

Auf die Träger habe ich vorne bis über die Schulter 25cm Blümchenborte mit dem dreifach Zickzack-Stich aufgenäht. Dabei habe ich die Borte beim Nähen etwas gestaucht, um das Band etwas elastisch zu halten. Erst dann habe ich die Träger hinten oben und unten mit Zickzack 1/1 festgenäht.

I added 25cm of the flower braids at the straps. I attached them with the elastic zigzag and compressed the braid a little while sewing to keep it elastic. I then attached the suspenders at the band with zig zag 1/1.

Am äußeren Rand der Bügel hat der BH wegen der Bügelanpassung eine kleine Unterarmwölbung. Das stört mich nicht.

At the nivel of the underarm there is a little bulge because of the underwire-adjustment.

Passend dazu nähte ich noch ein Smoothie Pantie, es wird noch ein zweiter folgen.

I sewed a Smoothie Pantie to go with it. There will be another one, later on.

Dieses Set ist sehr bequem, mit der Passform bin ich ganz zufrieden.
I am quite pleased of comfort and fitting.

Angestiftet von der Kreativität der Sew-Along-Gruppe, habe ich mir den Boylston-Bra-Schnitt von Orange Lingerie gekauft. Der wird aus festen Stoffen genäht und meist mit Laminat gefüttert. Das brachte mich auf die Idee, schöne Liberty Tana Lawn-Reste von meinem letztjährigen Flora Kleid zu verwenden. Einen passenden Slip-Schnitt, der auch gewebte Stoffe verwendet,  habe ich bei OhhhLuLu gefunden: Grace Hip Hugger Panties.

Instigated by the other creative sewing fellows, I bought the Boylston Bra Pattern by Orange Lingerie, which is sewn out of woven fabrics, mostly lined with laminate. I got the idea to use the few remnants of Liberty Tana Lawn left after sewing my last year's Flora Dress. At OhhhLuLu, I found the Grace Hip Hugger Panties pattern using wovens, too.

Erst überlegte ich, den BH wie vorgesehen mit Laminat zu füttern. Da ich solche BHs aber in schön fertig kaufen kann, entschied ich mich für ein weiches Futter aus Powernet.

At first, I considered lining the bra with laminate. But, this kind of bra can easily be bought at a lingerie shop. So I opted for a lining out of powernet.

Ich vergaß, den Schnitt für die weiteren Bügel anzupassen. Deshalb verwendete ich gut passende Bügel aus einem alten Balconette-BH.

I forgot to adjust the pattern at the wider underwires and used some out of an old well-fitting balcony bra.

Für das Pantie musste ich den Stoff ziemlich stückeln. Die Rückseite gefällt mir deshalb nicht so gut.

Cutting the fabric for the panties, I had to patch a lot. I am not so pleased of the panties' backside.

Fabric: remnants of Liberty Tana Lawn Edna C and of kit fabric, powernet.
Pattern: Boylston Bra, Orange Lingerie, size 70B, 32B, Band lengthened by 1inch.
             Grace Hip Hugging Panties, OhhhLuLu, Size L.

Ich vergaß, die NZ vor dem Wenden der zusammengenähten Cupteile einzuschneiden, deshalb ist die Oberkante ziemlich straff. Durch das wilde Muster ist das aber nicht so schlimm. Ich ziehe den luftigen, weichen BH gerne unter Sommerkleidern an. Beim Höschen bleibt nicht alles so schön an Ort und Stelle wie beim Smoothie, aber es passt zum BH und wird getragen. Ich bin nicht geheilt von meiner DNS, ein pinkes Set wartet auf das Nähen!

Before turning the cups, I had forgotten to clip the SA of the upper cup seam, So the upper edge is quite firm in relation to the cups. However, the busy print doesn't show and so I like to wear this cosy and light bra under summer Dresses. The panties aren't as well fitting as the Smoothie but are matching the bra, so they get a wear. I am not cured of my Lingerie Sewing Addiction, there is another, pink set waiting to be sewn!

Jetzt gehe ich aber zu eben Julia, um nachzuschauen, was die anderen Schönes genäht haben! Julia zeigt uns drei traumhafte Sets, eins schöner als das andere!

Now I will have a look at eben Julia to see all the lovely bras sewn by my fellows! Julia is showing three wonderful sets, one being more beautiful than the other!
