Jupe Brume, Deer+Doe and Kim cardigan, Burda Style

Hello, dear sewists,

I have sewn me two wearable blankets.

Jupe Brume Deer+Doe and a cardigan I made using the Vintage Burda Style Kim coat pattern.

I used a woolen double knit fabric of Tandem, which has got a woolen jaquard side at the outside and a blend knit at the inside being very cozy. I used the overlocker and the coverstitch for topstitching.

The cardigan knit is a wool blend with a very interesting knitted pattern in gold at mauve bought at theTandem outlet, too. I first sewed the darts with the sewing machine (Bernina stitch #11) as well as the difficult parts like the sleeve insertions. I then sewed everything on the overlocker. The edges and hem I sewed with a simple overlockerstitch, using woolen thread in short stitches.

I was not careful when dressing my skirt, sadly it is shown off Center the hem is badly balanced.

Unlined floral Lourdes Cropped Jacket, Named Clothing

When I had cut out my Inari dress, I got some 80 cm leftover of this precious linen and decided to make another little unlined jacket.

First, I wanted to repeat the Victoria blazer. However, the birthday sale at Named Clothing incited me to try the Lourdes Cropped Jacket.

The pdf-pattern is not pleasant. The two sizes at one print are higgledy-piggledy placed so you cannot grade from one size to the other. You have to be happy that the pieces of one size are not laid one over the other so they can be cut out directly. The size is not written at the pattern pieces so you have to write it down not to forget it.

I sewed size 38. The only change I made after a rough paper muslin was shifting the bust darts inwards for 2cm and a forward shoulder adjustment of 1cm.

Because I didn't line the jacket, I omitted the interfacing at neckline, armholes and sleeve caps. I didn't finish the raw edges like indicated before sewing.

The fake pockets, I pinned in place at the outer dart wings and basted them in place. Then I sewed the darts without cutting them out because of the omitted lining.

All the seams, I finished with a false flat felled seam.

I first sewed the seam, SA being 1cm at Named Clothing, and graded the back SA to 4mm.

I then made the first seam with the flat felled foot (Bernina #70).

Now I pressed the seam and sewed the second seam.

All the seams get sturdy and firm and everything is neat at the inside.

The facing, I finished with a small hem (Bernina foot #69). I understitched all the seam allowances at the facings (not seen in the pics).

I followed the good instructions which give nice results at the hem and the inverted pleat. 

The sleeves have got some lovely rounded slits.

To prevent the facing flapping out, I sewed in the shoulder seam ditch. I folded the hem seam allowance under by 1cm and edgestitched by the wrong side.

Afterwards, I noticed, that I had crossed the fake pocket flap. So I undid the hem seam at the flaps, secured the seam in front and stitched from the back under the flaps as long as possible.

I sewed a little loop at the inverted pleat, fixing the facing there, too.

Alterations: shifted the bust darts to the center by 2cm, 

                     forward shoulder adjustment by 1cm.

Victoria Blazer, BHL

Dear sewing friends,

While we had some very sticky and hot days last weak and yesterday, I could easily wear my beloved Belladone without cami underneath, today temperatures have declined.

When cutting out my Moana Dress, I could save some of the expensive linnen by using some remnant liberty lawn for the facings. It was just enough for sewing a little Victoria Blazer.

This cute pattern by ByHandLondon was waiting for years in my pattern stash waiting for the right fabric. I had intended to sew it up in a raspberry colour but hadn't found any adequate fabric.

So it stayed there, disregarded, and was just right for my fabric remnant. The pattern was already cut out in the right size, I could begin cutting out the fabric at once.

Everything went smoothly together. I made variation 2, the cropped jacket.

I didn't line it. Firstly, I wanted a little lightweight jacket for summer time and secondly, I didn't have any corresponding fabric in my stash.

So I made (false) flat felled seams overall: sewed the seam, graded the downside seam allowance, used the lap seam foot (Kapperfuß) to turn the other SA, moving my needle two positions to the left. I then pressed the seam and topstitched 1/4" at the right side with the help of the quilting foot.

I love the result very much. The colour is chiming well with quite a lot of my dresses.

Sonntag letzte Woche trug ich mein Walk-Anise-Jäckchen (Colette Patterns) bei einer kleinen Wanderung. Der Schnitt hatte mir bei Erscheinen sofort gefallen. Ich mag die Kurzjacke mit den 3/4-Ärmeln. Das Jäckchen wurde April 2013 genäht.

Sunday, I was wearing my  Anise Jacket by Colette Patterns. I loved the pattern as soon as it appeared. The short jacket with 3/4-sleeves is my style. My jacket was sewn in 2013.

Weil Wollwalk ziemlich elastisch ist und mir bei anderen das Jäckchen nicht so gefallen hatte, wenn es eher größer war, nähte ich Größe 2 statt 4/6. Als Hohlkreuzanpassung nahm ich noch ein wenig in den hinteren Wiener Nähten weg. Obwohl das Jäckchen sich nicht zu klein anfühlt, passt es mir offensichtlich nicht mehr so gut, nachdem ich in den letzten Jahren etwas zugenommen habe.

I sewed size 2 instead of 4/6 because of the felt's elasticity. I took in the back princess seams as swayback adjustment. After gaining some weight since I sewed it three years ago, maybe it should be wider at the hem.

Die einseitige Paspeltasche nähte ich nach der Anleitung meines alten Burda Buchs. Ich ließ das Futter weg und versäuberte die offenen Kanten der verstärkten Belege mit dem Overlocker.

The welt pockets I sewed following the instructions of my old Burda book. I didn't line the jacket but I used all the facings which I interfaced and finished the raw edges with my overlocker.

Ich fand farblich passende Hornknöpfe, die mir gut gefallen.



I found some horn buttons I like quite much.

Im Nachhinein hätte ich gerne einen kühleren Rotton, weil ich meine Garderobe in den letzten Jahren zu kühleren Farben gewechselt habe. Vielleicht würde ich die Jacke dann häufiger tragen. Der Wollwalk ist mitteldick und relativ warm. Ein perfektes Jäckchen für eine kleine Sonntagswanderung.

In retrospect, I would have liked a cooler shade of red because I have changed my wardrobe to cooler tones. Maybe it would be worn more often then. The felt's thickness is medium, so it is quite warm. A perfect little jacket for a short sunday hike.

Strickjacke mit Schalkragen zum MeMadeMittwoch

schnell ein paar Fotos zum heutigen MeMadeMittwoch, den heute Wiebke mit einem Freudensprung anführt (leider war mein rechter Ärmel hochgerutscht).

today Wiebke is leading at MeMadeMittwoch, so I took some pictures of my outfit today (I am sorry about the rode up sleeve).

Diese Strickjacke habe ich aus einem wunderbar kuscheligen, leichten Wollstrick nach dem Liesl-Maritime-Shirt-Schnitt genäht.

I made this cardigan out of a wonderful wool knit using the Liesl Maritime Shirt pattern.

Ich habe einen einfachen Schalstreifen mit der Webkante über den Halsausschnitt und die Vorderkanten genäht. In Taillenhöhe habe ich dabei Raffbändchen und Bindebänder mitgefasst, die ich aus vier Zentimeter breiten Streifen aus Seideresten des Cinema Dress mit je 1cm NZ genäht hatte. Das hatte ich bei der Jacke einer Mitnäherin gesehen.

I just added a simple scarf piece at the fronts and neck using the selvedge. and added some small silk strips leftover from my Cinema Dress to keep the scarf together and some tie strips. I had seen this at a cardigan of a sewing fellow.

Der Kuschelschal ist mir ein wenig zu voluminös, wird mich aber wahrscheinlich schön warmhalten, wenn es kälter wird.

Maybe the scarf is a little bit too bulky, but probably will keep me warm when weather will get colder.

der schöne Spätsommer geht langsam in einen goldenen Herbst über. Die Strumpfhosen sind endgültig aus dem Sommerquartier geholt und es ist Zeit für Wollwalk-Jacken.

late summer is slowly changing over to a golden autumn. Thights are taken out of the summer grounds and it is the time for wool felt jackets.

Ich hatte Montag mein La Sylphide Kleid an, der Schnitt ist von Papercut Patterns aus der Covent Garden Kollektion.
Monday, I wore my La Sylphide Dress, pattern by Papercut Patterns.

Es ist mein zweiter Versuch. Zuerst hatte ich einen Seide-Baumwoll-Print vom Stoffmarkt vernäht. Leider sah das ganze Kleid ziemlich traurig aus, was vielleicht an der zu großen Größe, aber auch an der hellgrauen Farbe lag. Außerdem hielt der Stoff das Tragen nicht aus und riss an mehreren Belastungsstellen; ich habe das Kleid entsorgt.

It is my second attempt. At first, I had sewn a silk-cotton print. The worn dress looked desolate, maybe due to the big size and the greyish colour, too. In addition, the fabric didn't endure the wear and ripped; so I threw it out.

Bei diesem Kleid aus einem reduzierten Liberty Tana Lawn habe ich im Oberteil eine Größe reduziert, und im Rückenteil sehr viel Länge herausgenommen. Dabei hatte ich die Brustabnäher als SBA schmaler genäht. Ich würde beim nächsten Mal das Oberteil noch 1cm kürzen.

This time, I sewed my dress out of a Liberty Tana lawn, cut the bodice one size smaller, shortened the back bodice and narrowed the front Darts as SBA. Another time, I would shorten the bodice by another 1cm.

Alterations:       front darts 0,75cm narrower, bodice narrower, back bodice shortened.
                           Next time I will shorten the bodice by 1cm.

Änderungen:     Brustabnäher jeweils 0,75cm schmaler,
                           Oberteil schmaler, rückwärtiges Oberteil kürzer.
                           Nächstes Mal werde ich das Oberteil 1cm kürzen.

Dazu habe ich eine Walkjacke von meinen Nähanfängen getragen. 

I dressed it with an old wool felt jacket.

Sie ist an allen Nähten knappkantig abgesteppt, nachdem die Nahtzugaben zu einer Seite gebügelt wurden. Dann wurde die untere Nahtzugabe knapp abgeschnitten, wieder abgesteppt und die zweite Nahtzugaben abgeschnitten. Das sieht aus aus wie eine Kappnaht und die Jacke ist auch ohne Futter von innen schön, die Nähte werden sehr stabil.
So sieht die Jacke geschlossen aus:

All seams are pressed to one side, topstitched, inner seam allowance cut, second top stitch seam, second SA cut. This way, it looks like felled seams and the seams get very firm.The jacket looks nice at the inside without lining.
