Dear sewist friends,
today we are meeting at MeMadeMittwoch for the final of our Christmas-Dress-sew-along 2016.

Seit einigen Tagen ist mein V8876 Kleid fertig. Leider bemerke ich erst jetzt, dass der Saum auf den Fotos an der Strumpfhose hängen blieb.

I have finished my V8876 dress some days ago. I was quite sorry when I realized that the pictures are showing the hem clinging at my tights.

Wirklich weihnachtlich wird es bei uns erst an Heiligabend, dann erst stellen wir auch den Christbaum auf. Ich habe für Euch aber den Adventskranz rausgeholt.

 

I have fetched out our Advent wreath for you. Our Christmas tree will be disposed only at Christmas eve.

alterations: one size smaller, omitted pockets, added facings to the front yoke sewn like sewing a shirt.

Jupe Brume, Deer+Doe and Kim cardigan, Burda Style

Hello, dear sewists,

I have sewn me two wearable blankets.

Jupe Brume Deer+Doe and a cardigan I made using the Vintage Burda Style Kim coat pattern.

I used a woolen double knit fabric of Tandem, which has got a woolen jaquard side at the outside and a blend knit at the inside being very cozy. I used the overlocker and the coverstitch for topstitching.

The cardigan knit is a wool blend with a very interesting knitted pattern in gold at mauve bought at theTandem outlet, too. I first sewed the darts with the sewing machine (Bernina stitch #11) as well as the difficult parts like the sleeve insertions. I then sewed everything on the overlocker. The edges and hem I sewed with a simple overlockerstitch, using woolen thread in short stitches.

I was not careful when dressing my skirt, sadly it is shown off Center the hem is badly balanced.

Weihnachtskleid-Sew-Along 2016-3+4

Unser 3. Treffen vor zwei Wochen habe ich leider ausgelassen. Heute treffen wir uns zum

Teil 4: Sonntag 18.12.2016- Fertig. Mit Kleid 1, 2 und 3. Jetzt kann ich noch ein Jäckchen stricken, eine passende Tasche nähen und die letzten Weihnachtskekse backen.
- Puh, ich habe die knifflige Stelle gemeistert und bin wahnsinnig stolz auf mich. Nie hätte ich das gedacht.
- Jetzt aber los. Die letzten Geschenke besorgen, das Weihnachtsmenü planen und natürlich noch das Kleid säumen.

I missed part 3 of our Christmas Dress Sew Along two weeks ago. Today is our last meeting before the final.

Die dunkle Farbe läßt sich kaum fotografieren.

The dark colour makes it very difficult to get decent pictures.

Beim Nähen habe ich die Seide auch hinter dem Fuß straff geführt, da sich die Naht sonst zusammenzog.

The silk had to be pulled a little for tension, otherwise it would pucker a bit. 

Ich muss noch die Knopflochnähte versorgen, die Knöpfe annähen und die Halsausschnittnaht von Hand schließen.

I have to sew the neckline seam by hand, finish the button holes and add the buttons.

Sie hat verschiedene Formulare für persönliche Nähinformationen und Projekte zusammengestellt, sodass alle wichtigen und interessanten Details übersichtlich in dem Planer zusammengefasst werden, sogar eine Seite für die Nähtrefftermine ist enthalten! Der Nähplaner wird mir eine gute Hilfe für meine zukünftigen Nähprojekte sein! Es macht auch Spaß, das alles einzutragen. Hab' so vielen lieben Dank, Mel!

Die deutsche Vogue-Anleitung des Schnitts lässt sehr zu wünschen übrig und gleicht den Anleitungen mancher chinesischer Produkte:

STEPPEN Sie den Besatz so weit wie möglich UNTER. (UNDERSTITCH facing as far as possible) 

Das hätte ich mit weniger Näherfahrung und ohne englische Nähbloglektüre nicht verstanden. 

Der Schnitt hat aber raffinierte Details, alles passt gut zusammen und außer dem etwas flutschigen Stoff gab es keine weiteren Probleme. 

 

The german translation of this Vogue pattern is badly made. Without any sewing experience and knowledge of english sewing terms it is not intelligible.

But everything came together smoothly and the pattern makes an interesting silhouette.

Meissa-Moana Dress, pattern hack, Papercut Patterns

Hello, my sewing friends,

as soon as I saw the Meissa pattern hack at the papercut blog, I knew that I had to make a Meissa-Moana-dress myself, too.
I had made a Meissa blouse with a very good fit and one and two linnen Moana dresses.

I combined the two patterns to be a dress, shortening the shirt pattern at the same hight as the Moana top and using the skirt pattern of the Moana dress. I made all the shirt features as long sleeves with cuffs, adding a slit to be able to fold the sleeves up, collar with collar stand and button placket. I inserted an invisible zip at the left side seam.

I used a floaty viskose crepe I had bought at the KBC fabric outlet, Lörrach. Before attaching the skirt, I pinned it in place and tried the ruffle. Without it, the whole dress looked somewhat sad, so I sewed everything in place.

I sewed the top button hole a little bit too distal and will have to fix this after the wash. The dress is so comfortable, I wore it two days in a row.

Weihnachtskleid-Sew-Along 2016-2 Stoff- und Schnitt

Dear sewist fellows,

heute ist schon das zweite Treffen zum Weihnachtskleid-Sew-Along 2016.

Today, we have got our second meeting for our Christmas-Dress-Sew-Along 2016, showing our patterns and fabrics.

Teil 2: Sonntag 20.11.2016 - Stoff- und Schnittvorstellung
- Hurra, ich habe genau den Stoff gefunden, den ich mir vorgestellt habe. Der Schnitt passt auch super dazu.
- Der Stoff ist toll, aber ich nehme doch lieber ein anderes Schnittmuster. Oder doch nicht?
- Was solls, ich kopiere den Schnitt und schneide gleich noch zu.
- Hilfe, der Stoff kommt nicht. Das Schnittmuster gefällt nicht mehr.

Mein Plan ist ein flatteriges, leichtes Kleid wie das Weihnachtskleid von 2014. Ich möchte einen sehr schön fallenden Seidencrepe vom Lézard-Sonderverkauf verwenden. Erst sah ich den The Azaire Dress Schnitt vor. Als Schnittprobe wollte ich eine Blusenversion aus dem rechten double gauze von Nani Iro nähen.

 

My plan is sewing a floaty dress like my 2014 Christmas dress. I want to use a lovely silk crepe with great drape I had bought at the Lézard outlet. I intended to sew The Azaire Dress by Gather and wanted to sew a blouse version first to check the fit, using the gorgeous double gauze Nani Iro (at the right).

Plötzlich erinnerte ich mich an den Vogue-Schnitt, nach dem ich eigentlich eine Sommerversion hatte nähen wollen: Vogue 8876. Da dieser Schnitt ein weiteres Rockteil hat, werde ich ihn für mein Weihnachtskleid verwenden. Vorne ist eine Knopfleiste oder ein Reißverschluss vorgesehen, da bin ich noch unentschieden. Auch die Kragenversion sagt mir nicht hundertprozentig zu. Vielleicht werde ich eine kragenlose Version mit RV in der Seitennaht nähen.

 

Suddenly, I remembered Vogue 8876, designated for a summer Dress. I will use it for my Christmas Dress, now. It has got a button placket or a Center front zip. Maybe I will eliminate the collar and insert a side seam zip.

Der Schnitt ist schon ausgeschnitten, ich werde eine Nummer kleiner gehen, da die fertigen Maße sehr weit sind.

The pattern pieces are cut out one size smaller than indcated, because the finished sizes are really generous.

 

Ich bin gespannt, für welche Schnitte und Stoffe sich die Mitnäherinnen entschieden haben!

schon wieder naht Weihnachten. Dodo und Yvonet helfen uns mit dem Weihnachtskleid-Sew-Along 2016, rechtzeitig mit den Überlegungen zur passenden Garderobe anzufangen und werden uns auf dem MeMadeMittwoch-Blog begleiten, damit das Erträumte auch fertig wird.

Christmas is coming. Dodo and Yvonet are hosting our German WKSA (Christmas-Dress-Sew-Along) 2016 at MeMadeMittwoch. Today's topic is inspiration and retrospect.

- Perfekt, ich weiß genau was ich nähen will und es ist schon alles da. Schnitt, Stoff, Zubehör.
- Oh weh, ich habe noch keine Ahnung und verlasse mich mal auf die Inspiration der Anderen.
- Ich weiß genau welcher Schnitt, aber keine Ahnung was für ein Stoff passt.
- Stoff ist da, aber welchen Schnitt solch ich nur nehmen?

Meine Weihnachtskleider bisher:
My christmas dresses 2011-2016:

2011

Mein erstes selbstgenähtes, gefüttertes Kleid war das Paris-Kleid, Burda Style 128-082009 "Pariser Chic", das ich für Weihnachten genäht hatte. Ich ziehe es immer noch gerne an, weil ich mich darin sehr gut angezogen fühle und es kuschelig warm ist.

The Paris Dress, Burda Style 128-082009 "Pariser Chic" was my first selfmade dress, I even made a lining. I would wear it now and then, because it is quite cozy and I feel well dressed wearing it.

Mein Rückblick aus dem letzten Jahr für 2012-2014:

2012

 

Das Weihnachtskleid aus meinem ersten Nähjahr fand meine ganze Familie toll, einschließlich meiner großen Töchter.

First year when I began to sew my clothes, I made me a very christmassy dress. My family inclusiv my daughters loved this one.

2013

 

Hier hatte ich die Indie Schnitte entdeckt. Das Dakota Kleid ziehe ich regelmäßig an, allerdings ist der Romanit in der Länge ziemlich eingegangen.

 

That year, I had discovered indie patterns. The Dakota Dress is still worn regularly although the fabric has shortened.

Fabric: ponte di roma knit, bought at Garçonne, Freiburg.

2014

 

Nach Claudias Vorschlag im letzten Jahr (2014), zu Weihnachten etwas Luxuriöses zu nähen, nähte ich ein Downton Abbey inspiriertes Zwanziger Jahre Kleid aus einem hochwertigen und teureren fließenden Wollstoff. Ich hatte vor, es Heiligabend und zu Theaterbesuchen anzuziehen, aber es hat sich als äußerst vielseitig entpuppt und ist ideal für Essenseinladungen und ähnliche Gelegenheiten, da es bequem zu tragen ist und ich den Stoff mit dem schönen Print sehr liebe.

 

After Claudia's suggestion last year (2014) to make a luxurious dress for Christmas, I made me a Downton Abbey's twenties inspired dress out of a precious and pricey fabric. My thought was to wear it at Christmas eve and for theatre visits. But it is a surprising good dress to wear for dinner invitations or other occasions, too, because it is very comfortable and cosy with a lovely print.

2015

 

letztes Jahr nähte ich mir die Robe Cardamome, Deer+Doe. Der Stoff ist sehr angenehm zu tragen. Ich liebe das Kleid dennoch nicht so sehr, ohne zu wissen, warum.

Last year's christmas Dress was the Robe Cardamome, Deer+Doe. The fabric is very comfortable to wear, but why the dress is not my favorite, I don't know.

Fabric/Stoff:      burgundy/black vichy by Deer+Doe

 

Für dieses Jahr wünsche ich mir ein bequemes, fließendes Kleid wie das von 2014. Ich war erstaunt, wie gerne ich es anziehe. In einer weniger auffälligen Version werde ich es dann hoffentlich häufig weiter tragen.

 

This year, I would like to make a floaty dress, similar to the Robe Vivianne of 2014. I was so surprized as how much I like to wear that dress. In a more reluctant version, it will hopefully see a lot of wear.

 

Ich bin gespannt, was die anderen alle planen!

 

Now I am curious about the other's plans!

Wenona dress, Named Clothing: fail?

Dear sewing friends,

When visiting my daughter last year, I had bought some lovely Liberty Tana Lawn. 

After some hesitation, the lovely Wenona dress versions by Megan, Yoshimi and Claudia inspired me to make one, too.

I printed a bunch of the technical drawing to find the best arrangement of the two fabrics for the details.

I chose one size smaller than according to my measurements because every sewist had outlined  a big outcome.

When cutting out, I was quite careful to be accurate with the print.

I finished all seams with french seams.

I snipped the seam allowance to turn it under two times to hem the sleeve slits.

When I finished my dress in july, weather was too hot to wear it. Furthermore, I realised that the print bothered me a bit.

In the first week of Oktober, we had our great sewing bee "AnNäherung Süd" at Würzburg with about fourty lovely women sewing and chattering together. I was very pleased sharing a room with Julia Sewionista, IsaLaBella and Almut of La Couseuse, we had such a great time!

I asked for help how to put an outfit with the dress. This was the only time I wore it. I suppose that I will have to shorten it. It looks too much like an apron dress. What do you think? I appreciate honest opinions!

Camden Cape, Seamwork,

My dear sewing friends,

Last fall, at the factory outlet of Tandem (Bühl), I had bought enough woolen double fabric to make two capes, one for my daughter and one for myself.

My Cypress Cape was finished at the end of winter and worn until the first warm days, it's so cozy.

When my daughter was at home, she chose the Camden Cape pattern by Seamwork.

I immediately cut the pieces and began to sew. The fabric being double, a cozy feltlike wool blend at the outside and a knit at the inside, I chose omitting the lining and making the same finish as for my own cape. I changed the center inserting a twoway zip with an underlaid band.
Having sewn the last vertical seam, I realised that I had closed the armslits, too!

I had to wait for daylight to unpick the seams and those of the flat-felled-like finish (where I had graded the seam allowances already).

This was made later on but then- warm days were coming, I was unsure how to finish the slits and I had to draw a back facing...

So it stayed as an unfinished object until the end of september when I would visit my daughter.

I finished the armslits with two interfaced fabric strips each which I first closed to the size of the slit, sewed them right sides facing the cape, graded the seams, turned them and topstitched them in place. Same procedure with the neckfacing, which I drew overlapping the cape pieces at the seamlines. I graded the fabric to the topstiches.

My daughter loves her cape and wore it all the evenings.

Midsummer Night's Dream dress, Papercut Patterns

My dear sewists,

What a lovely summer heat in september! Who had thought that I could wear my lightweight Midsummer Night's Dream dress in these days!

As soon as the pattern was released, I loved it.

To say the truth, I very much love the name. Midsummer Night's Dream was the first ballet my daughters would dance with their Ballett-Ensemble, so I have got some sweet memories.

However, I realised that the pattern has got some issues, described by some of the few bloggers who had already sewn it.

 

The pattern rested in my drawer waiting for the right fabric. Eventually, at a fabric outlet,  I purchased a very lightweight cotton/silk blend, a perfect material for this pattern.

I had intended to use the border print along the neckline, but made an error aligning the waistline. I then cut the back bodice accordingly. I cut the skirt as long as my fabric allowed me to.

I used self bias binding. I sewed the skirt's back center with a french seam, the other ones I made as false flat felled seams (foot #70) to make them more stable.

This was nearly to become a bad dud! The front armhole was way too long. The straps were moved extremely to the center. So I remembered Chantal's solution to gather the front armhole. Sewing three pleats, I pinched three full inches out of each front armhole. 

This way, I've got a lovely airy summerdress. The skirt's overlap is very well designed, no gaping fear!

Fabric: Cotton/silk blend, paisleylike borderprint, KBC Lörrach

Alterations: 3 pleats of one inch each at front armhole, midi /maxi length.
