I am always very late to jump on all sorts of bandwagons. I would sew winter clothes in spring and summer clothes in fall.
I liked looking at all those lovely Inari dresses thinking that this is a style which doesn't suit me.
Until I saw Gail's gorgeous versions. She had made all those alterations I supposed I would have to do, too.
Gail is looking so good in her Inari dresses which encouraged me to give the pattern a try. I bought a lovely Italian floral linen at my local fabric store Garçonne during their summer sale.
I started at size 38 in shoulders and bust, grading to a 42 at hipline.
I always would shift the sleeves' shoulder notch 1cm forwards. This time, I made Gail's forward shoulder adjustment.
Because of my fabric being rather expensive, I made a toile. To obtain smaller armholes, I decided to reduce the upper height for about 2 cm. I added the missing 2cm under hip level. Maybe, I should have shortened it instead because I am shorter than the drafted length of 1,72cm by Named. When I realized this, I already had sewn the flat felled side seams.
I love flat felled seams for linen. The problem was the small seam allowance of 1cm by Named Clothing. A good excuse to buy the 4mm flat felled foot (Bernina #70).
I sewed my usual seam, then graded the back SA to 0,5cm, then sewed the first seam with the foot, pressed the seam and sewed the second seam with the foot. Everything went smoothly and gave me a small and sturdy (faux) flat felled seam.
I added one centimeter at the vent's seam allowances to fold it under. Same to the hem, where I used one centimeter to fold it in, too. So I serged the neckfacing's raw edge only.
I am participating in Gillian's #SewingDares.
Gillian ("Crafting a Rainbow"):
"Looking through your IG, you’ve got a wardrobe full of beautiful classic dresses… so I’m going to dare you to sew a dress that is either shorter or longer then your normal knee-length!"
Does this count? In the front, the dress is rather short to me. But now, I will be looking for a less expensive fabric suitable for a maxi dress. Thank you so much, Gillian, for your thoughts!
Size: 38, graded to 42 at hip level
Fabric: Italian linen, Garçonne
Alterations: forward shoulder adjustment 1cm, shortened the bodice and sleeves 2cm at the middle of the armhole, lengthened 2 cm under hip level, added 1 cm SA at the vents.
Have a lovely sewing time!

Ich werde wohl nicht drumrumkommen - zumal ich einen ähnlichen Wollstoff gefunden habe :)
LöschenJust gorgeous!! I'm glad you were convinced to try this pattern out - it looks fantastic on you! I'm thinking I'll now have to find myself some floral linen . . . :-)
AntwortenLöschenI was lazy on all my versions and just serged the edges for the hem and vent, but yours looks so much nicer. I think I will add the centimeter like you did for my future versions.
Thank you so much, Gail! I guess that serging the edges is a very good finish, too. But the cm at the hemline is no big deal and looks a smidgen nicer.
LöschenWaiting for your future versions!
