Jupe Brume, Deer+Doe and Kim cardigan, Burda Style

Hello, dear sewists,

I have sewn me two wearable blankets.

Jupe Brume Deer+Doe and a cardigan I made using the Vintage Burda Style Kim coat pattern.

I used a woolen double knit fabric of Tandem, which has got a woolen jaquard side at the outside and a blend knit at the inside being very cozy. I used the overlocker and the coverstitch for topstitching.

The cardigan knit is a wool blend with a very interesting knitted pattern in gold at mauve bought at theTandem outlet, too. I first sewed the darts with the sewing machine (Bernina stitch #11) as well as the difficult parts like the sleeve insertions. I then sewed everything on the overlocker. The edges and hem I sewed with a simple overlockerstitch, using woolen thread in short stitches.

I was not careful when dressing my skirt, sadly it is shown off Center the hem is badly balanced.

Kim Mantel, Burda Vintage 2014 Mod. 7

immer noch ist es draußen so kalt, dass ich mich dazu motivieren konnte, den Mantel Kim aus der Vintage Burda von 2014 zu ende zu nähen.

Susi hatte bei der Annäherung Süd 2015 so einen schicken Mantel aus einem traumhaften Mohairwollstoff genäht. Nachdem sie mich zur Anprobe des tollen Teils gedrängt hatte und ich mir wider allen Erwartens in der Silhouette gefiel, suchte ich beim nächsten Fabrikverkauf bei Tandem in Bühl nach einem entsprechenden Stoff und wurde auch fündig. Danke, liebe Susi, für die Anprobe und den Schnitt und Dir, liebe Mel, für das Überlassen des Heftes!

At our German sewing bee Annäherung Süd 2015,  Susi sew this coat out of a wonderful green mohair and let me try it on. Against my expectations, I loved the shape. Thank you, Susi  and Mel to provide me with pattern and magazine!

Ich habe den Mantel aus einem flauschigen bordeauxfarbenen Mantelstoff genäht und ihn mit einem goldfarbenen passenden Mantelfutterstoff gefüttert.

I sew the coat out of a lovely woolen coat fabric and lined it with a golden lining.

Leider habe ich unzählige Fehler gemacht, obwohl ich ihn während eines Nähkurses genäht habe. Die Fehler lagen alle an mir, meine liebe Nählehrerin trifft da überhaupt keine Schuld:

Sadly, I made a lot of mistakes:

Den Stoff habe ich unnötigerweise vorgewaschen. Es war nicht so einfach, den voluminösen Stoff zum Trocknen aufzuhängen. Sicherlich werde ich den Mantel später doch nicht selbst waschen, hätte mir das Vorwaschen also sparen können.

I prewashed this woolen fabric. Surely, I will not wash the sewn coat myself so this step was unnecessary.

Beim Aufbügeln der Vlieseline bügelte ich die Belege platt. Später bügelte ich vorsichtig mit einer Art Noppenunterlage (ähnlich wie Klettverschluss).

I pressed the facings flat while fusing the interfacing. After that, I pressed with an underlay similar to velcro.

Dann habe ich das Futter-Vorderteil mit Taschenausschnitten zugeschnitten, weil ich unkonzentriert war und musste die Taschenteile anstückeln.

Then, I cut the front lining with the pocket cutouts and had to piece on.

Später ist mir das Futter beim Versäubern mit der Overlock ZWEI MAL! versehentlich in das Messer gerutscht und ich musste Flicken aufsetzen.

Later on, I accidentally cut my lining when finishing the seams with my serger TWO TIMES! and had to add patches.

Dann habe ich die Ärmel vertauscht beim Einnähen und musste eine Armeinsatznaht wieder auftrennen. Das war bei dem Stoff und der dunklen Farbe nicht ganz einfach.

Then I changed right and left sleeve which I realised after having inserted the first one which I had to unsew.

Dank des Nähkurses blieb ich trotzdem dran und habe gestern nachmittag die letzten Handnähte beendet. Dass ich beim Fixieren des Belegs mit Hexenstich vergass, die Taschen unterzustecken, passte da irgendwie. Ich habe an der Stelle noch einmal aufgetrennt und den Beleg an der Stelle auf den Taschen fixiert.

Owing to the fact that I sewed this coat at some sewing lessons, I stayed tuned to finishing it. Yesterday evening, I finished all the hems by hand.

Das Mantelprojekt hat mir sonst aber Spaß gemacht. Das Nähen ging relativ schnell, es gibt ja auch keine Absteppnähte. Auch das Futterteil kam zügig zusammen. Wichtig ist, die entsprechenden Stellen mit Vlieseline zu verstärken. Beim Einsetzen der Taschen muss man auch aufpassen, bis zum richtigen Punkt zu nähen.

Nevertheless, I loved to sew this coat. Everything came together nicely. It is important, to sew the pocket seams up to the right Point. I put fusible interfacing at all those important edges and corners.

Als Aufhänger habe ich aus 2cm breiten Schrägbändern aus dem Futterstoff kleine Bändchen verstürzt, geflochten und zwischen Beleg und Futter zwischengefasst. Beim Flechten habe ich darauf geachtet, die Naht nach innen zu halten.

I inserted a hanger between facing and lining, braided out of three little tubes which I made out of bias linig tape.

Der Mantel ist wunderbar muckelig und auch warm. Heute zeige ich ihn zur Jeans, ich werde ihn aber sicher eher zu Kleidern und anderen Schuhen tragen.

My coat is really cosy. I am showing it with Jeans, but probably I will Combine it more with Dresses and other shoes.

Alterations: added some centimeters of ease at the center back lining, added a hanger.

Paris-Kleid, Burda Style

jetzt können wir wieder die Winterkleider 'rausholen. Morgens ist draußen alles vom Rauhreif verzaubert.


we can get out all of our winter dresses, now. In the morning, everything outside is enchanted by rime.

Gestern hatte ich mein erstes selbstgenähtes Kleid an. Ich hatte es sogar gefüttert und war so glücklich, dass es passte. Es war im übrigen mein erstes Weihnachtskleid 2011, das hatte ich bei der Weihnchtskleidrückschau ganz vergessen!


Yesterday, I wore my first selfmade dress. It is lined and I was so happy when it fitted. It was 2011, my first christmas Dress which I omitted at my review of Christmas Dresses.

Der Reißverschluss war mir ganz gut gelungen, obwohl ich nur ein billiges Füßchen mit einem Adapter hatte. Das Kleid hat einen Nähmaschinen-Blindstich-Saum.


I succeeded in inserting the zip with a cheap adapter foot. The blind hem is sewn by machine.

Weihnachtskleid-Sew-Along 2015 Rückschau

Es ist bei dem warmen Wetter kaum zu glauben, dass schon bald die Adventszeit naht und wir uns bereits Gedanken über ein neues Weihnachtskleid machen!

2012

Das Weihnachtskleid aus meinem ersten Nähjahr fand meine ganze Familie toll, einschließlich meiner großen Töchter. Leider kam letztes Jahr ein Kerzenwachsfleck darauf. Jetzt muss ich es endlich in die Reinigung bringen!

First year when I began to sew my clothes, I made me a very christmassy dress. My family inclusiv my daughters loved this one. Last year, it got stained with candle's wax.

2013

Hier hatte ich die Indie Schnitte entdeckt. Das Dakota Kleid ziehe ich regelmäßig an, allerdings ist der Romanit in der Länge ziemlich eingegangen.

That year, I had discovered indie patterns. The Dakota Dress is still worn regularly although the fabric has shortened.

Fabric: ponte di roma knit, bought at Garçonne, Freiburg.

2014

Nach Claudias Vorschlag im letzten Jahr, zu Weihnachten etwas Luxuriöses zu nähen, nähte ich ein Downton Abbey inspiriertes Zwanziger Jahre Kleid aus einem hochwertigen und teureren fließenden Wollstoff. Ich hatte vor, es Heiligabend und zu Theaterbesuchen anzuziehen, aber es hat sich als äußerst vielseitig entpuppt und ist ideal für Essenseinladungen und ähnliche Gelegenheiten, da es bequem zu tragen ist und ich den Stoff mit dem schönen Print sehr liebe.

After Claudia's suggestion last year to make a luxurious dress for Christmas, I made me a Downton Abbey's twenties inspired Dress out of a precious and pricey fabric. My thought was to wear it at Christmas eve and for theatre visits. But it is a surprising good dress to wear for dinner invitations or other occasions, too, because it is very comfortable and cosy with a lovely print.

Dieses Jahr werde ich mir zu Weihnachten vermutlich ein Wren Dress von Colette Patterns nähen. Aus einem hübschen Stoff kann es hoffentlich elegant aber bequem sein. Gibt es ein besseres Kleid für Heiligabend?

This year, maybe I will sew a Wren Dress by Colette Patterns. In a lovely fabric, I think it could be elegant but cosy. What better for a nice Christmas Eve?

der schöne Spätsommer geht langsam in einen goldenen Herbst über. Die Strumpfhosen sind endgültig aus dem Sommerquartier geholt und es ist Zeit für Wollwalk-Jacken.

late summer is slowly changing over to a golden autumn. Thights are taken out of the summer grounds and it is the time for wool felt jackets.

Ich hatte Montag mein La Sylphide Kleid an, der Schnitt ist von Papercut Patterns aus der Covent Garden Kollektion.
Monday, I wore my La Sylphide Dress, pattern by Papercut Patterns.

Es ist mein zweiter Versuch. Zuerst hatte ich einen Seide-Baumwoll-Print vom Stoffmarkt vernäht. Leider sah das ganze Kleid ziemlich traurig aus, was vielleicht an der zu großen Größe, aber auch an der hellgrauen Farbe lag. Außerdem hielt der Stoff das Tragen nicht aus und riss an mehreren Belastungsstellen; ich habe das Kleid entsorgt.

It is my second attempt. At first, I had sewn a silk-cotton print. The worn dress looked desolate, maybe due to the big size and the greyish colour, too. In addition, the fabric didn't endure the wear and ripped; so I threw it out.

Bei diesem Kleid aus einem reduzierten Liberty Tana Lawn habe ich im Oberteil eine Größe reduziert, und im Rückenteil sehr viel Länge herausgenommen. Dabei hatte ich die Brustabnäher als SBA schmaler genäht. Ich würde beim nächsten Mal das Oberteil noch 1cm kürzen.

This time, I sewed my dress out of a Liberty Tana lawn, cut the bodice one size smaller, shortened the back bodice and narrowed the front Darts as SBA. Another time, I would shorten the bodice by another 1cm.

Pattern/Schnitt: La Sylphide Dress, Covent Garden Collection by Papercut Patterns.
Size/Größe:        Oberteil/Bodice XS
                            Skirt: S
Fabric/Stoff:      Liberty Tana Lawn Tomary (Sewbox)

Alterations:       front darts 0,75cm narrower, bodice narrower, back bodice shortened.
                           Next time I will shorten the bodice by 1cm.

Änderungen:     Brustabnäher jeweils 0,75cm schmaler,
                           Oberteil schmaler, rückwärtiges Oberteil kürzer.
                           Nächstes Mal werde ich das Oberteil 1cm kürzen.

Dazu habe ich eine Walkjacke von meinen Nähanfängen getragen. 

I dressed it with an old wool felt jacket.

Sie ist an allen Nähten knappkantig abgesteppt, nachdem die Nahtzugaben zu einer Seite gebügelt wurden. Dann wurde die untere Nahtzugabe knapp abgeschnitten, wieder abgesteppt und die zweite Nahtzugaben abgeschnitten. Das sieht aus aus wie eine Kappnaht und die Jacke ist auch ohne Futter von innen schön, die Nähte werden sehr stabil.
So sieht die Jacke geschlossen aus:

All seams are pressed to one side, topstitched, inner seam allowance cut, second top stitch seam, second SA cut. This way, it looks like felled seams and the seams get very firm.The jacket looks nice at the inside without lining.
